Description
Canadair CL-215 “Scooper”
A Pioneering Amphibious Aircraft in a Niche Market
A Brief Pictorial Testimony
Canadair CL-215 celebrated the 50th anniversary of its maiden flight on October 23rd (see relevant poster). By in 1967, the radial-engined aircraft took-off for the first time from Cartierville runway, Montreal’s old VFR airport in Canada, to signal a new era in forest firefighting. Its innovative approach to collect water by literally shaving water surfaces remains to this date unsurpassed. It is undoubtedly true that CL-215, as a concept, is the archetype of all subsequent aerial firefighting aircraft. In this book, the reader will enjoy a short account of Canadair’s past, a brief analysis of CL-215’s performance, and a lot of photographs and illustrations.
